Rep. Richmond Statement on College Admissions Cheating Scandal

Press Release

Washington, D.C. Congressman Cedric Richmond (D-LA) issued the following statement on the outcome of the recent college cheating scandal involving bribery of wealthy parents of college applicants to various universities:

“For far too long, the rich have gotten away with stealing with little to no consequences,” said Rep. Richmond. “The recent bribery scandal put on full display for the world what many have already known for decades. The rich and famous, who did not believe their children had what it takes to gain acceptance to the most elite institutions, were willing to commit fraud and undermine the integrity of hardworking applicants of color and those from a lower tax bracket.

“Elbert Hubbard said it best, ‘The poor and ignorant will continue to lie and steal as long as the rich and educated show them how’. All the parents, coaches, and other university officials involved in the scandal should serve ample jail time for the crimes they’ve committed.”
