Rep. Richmond Statement on NCAA Updated Policies for Student-Athletes

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Cedric Richmond (LA-02) issued the following statement after the NCAA announcement updating their policies in support of student-athletes:

“The NCAA’s decision to modernize and update their policies to allow student-athletes to benefit from their name, image, and likeness is a necessary step forward,” said Rep. Richmond. “Since its inception, the NCAA and collegiate sports programs have profited immensely off of student-athletes who have worked tirelessly to balance their sports and academic obligations. By leveling the playing field, we can begin to create a more mutually beneficial environment for all parties. I’m pleased the Student-Athlete Equity Act, a bill Rep. Mark Walker and I introduced this year, moved this conversation in the right direction with equitable action.”
