Today, Congressman Cedric Richmond (LA-02) led 56 Members of Congress in a letter to the House Speaker and Majority Leader calling on them “to assure the American people that the federal government remains a committed partner in helping to restore communities in the wake of natural disasters” and “make it clear that budgetary offsets will not be required prior to emergency funding.”

Washington, DC— Congressman Cedric Richmond (LA-02) announced today a grant for the Louis Armstrong International Airport totaling $1.1 million dollars. It will fund a portion of planned taxiway G to ease and speed traffic flow both in and out of the terminals – helping more planes arrive and depart on schedule.

Mr. Richmond’s amendment increases funds for the Bureau of Oceans and Energy Management, Regulation, and Enforcement by $5 million. The additional funding is estimated to increase the pace of oil drilling permitting and, as a result, contribute to the creation of some 230,000 jobs.The measure passed 221-192.

Congressman Cedric Richmond (LA-02) released the following video of his Floor statement after the House passed the Scalise/Richmond amendment to the Energy and Water Appropriations bill. The amendment would add $6.3 million to the Army Corps of Engineers budget for dredging of waterways. The bipartisan measure passed 241 – 418.

"Almost six years after Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma, the government is attempting to recoup disaster assistance from people who didn’t do anything wrong. In Orleans and Jefferson Parishes alone, FEMA is asking 104 people to pay an average of $7,000 each. It’s absurd!"
