Congressman Richmond Meets With Louis Armstrong International TSA Agents
Washington DC - Congressman Cedric Richmond (LA-02) released the following statement after meeting with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents at the Louis Armstrong International Airport. The Congressman thanked the agents for the work they do on a daily basis and for their efforts surrounding the Friday, March 20th incident at the airport.
“I would like to thank Lt. Heather Sylve, Supervisor Carol Richel, and Agents Walter Johnson and Chris Lucia for their bravery and determination,” said Rep. Richmond. “Without their extraordinary efforts, the incident could have injured numerous passengers traveling through MSY. These men and women are examples of the bravery of our TSA agents and Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Officers who protect passengers and airport personnel every day. We trust TSA to protect airports across the nation, and I cannot be more proud of the job the agents and officers did in my home airport to keep us safe and secure.
This incident underscores the importance and necessity of comprehensive mental health treatment. The State of Louisiana has and continues to fail our citizens who have mental health challenges. Our men and women on the front line acted heroically and saved many lives but what is the most unfortunate is that this was preventable.
Through my post on the Homeland Security committee I will continue working to provide the best possible tools and resources to keep us safe.”
Congressman Richmond sits on the House Committee on Homeland Security (CHS) and is the ranking member over the Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Protection, and Secure Technologies subcommittee. As a member of the CHS, he works closely with TSA leadership to make sure the Agents have the right tools to keep our ports and airports safe and secure.
