HOLY CROSS STUDENT WINS CONGRESSIONAL ART COMPETITION
New Orleans, LA– The Jazz Fest gave way to another art form last night as high school students bopped into the McKenna Museum for the 2nd Congressional District Art Competition. While 25 students participated, Holy Cross High School Senior, Tyler Conde’ was the 1st place winner with his painting “Star Spangled Banners.”
Congressman Cedric L. Richmond (D-LA) announced the winners today. The runners-up are:
2nd Place: Kristin Frank

Academy of the Sacred Heart
3rd Place: Alyx Harch
“Numb”
Lusher Charter School
As the winner, Conde’ will have his artwork displayed alongside winners from every Congressional District in the U.S. Capitol for the year. Frank’s artwork will be displayed in Congressman Richmond’s Washington, DC office. Harch’s work will be displayed in Congressman Richmond’s New Orleans, LA office.
The independent panel of judges from the local community responsible for selecting the winning pieces of art were Ron Bechet, Professor of Art at Xavier University, Marie Lamb, the Education Director of Contemporary Arts Center of New Orleans, Echo Olander, the Executive Director of KID smART, and Jacques Rodrigue, the Executive Director of the George Rodrigue Foundation.
Conde’ and one guardian received two round-trip tickets to Washington, D.C., to attend the unveiling reception at the U.S. Capitol in June as well as a $1500 per year scholarship to an art and design college, should he apply and be accepted.
