New Orleans Receives $500K in Department of Transportation Grants for Disaster Evacuation Planning
Washington, DC – Yesterday, the United States Department of Transportation announced that the City of New Orleans, in partnership with the Regional Transit Authority (RTA) and the University of New Orleans (UNO), will receive funding to improve the evacuation of city residents and vulnerable populations during emergencies and disasters:
“It is important to routinely examine the city’s evacuation protocol, to ensure the most vulnerable citizens have the ability to vacate the city in case of an emergency,” said Rep. Richmond (LA-02). “The threat of future emergencies is ever present. The resources provided by the Department of Transportation will be vital to maintain the most up to date standards and procedures so that the errors of the past are not repeated.”
