Press Release

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Cedric Richmond (LA-02), released the following statement in response to President Trump’s first budget proposal:

“President Trump’s budget would put the future of Louisiana in jeopardy,” said Rep. Richmond. “His budget decimates community block grants that assist people find quality housing, eliminate urban blight, and play an important role in disaster recovery.

“It limits access to higher education and prevents our young people from climbing the economic ladder by severely cutting financial aid for kids attempting to go to college.

“It slashes TIGER Grants that we need to develop our infrastructure and it places more of a burden on flood insurance policyholders. It outright eliminates funding that our state, parish, and city governments rely on, which will only make their budget situations worse.

“A budget is much more than numbers on a page, it is a moral document that reveals your priorities. With this budget, the President has made it clear that our state’s well-being is not high on his list. I consider this budget an insult to our state and anyone who supports Louisiana cannot in good faith support it.”
