Press Release

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Cedric Richmond (LA-02) released the following statement after passage of H.R. 1628, the American Health Care Act of 2017:

“Well, the Republicans have fulfilled a campaign promise.  Unfortunately, it was a promise that will have serious life-changing consequences for millions of Americans, including veterans, individuals with pre-existing conditions, older Americans, and those who rely on Medicaid,” said Rep. Richmond. “The bill makes it easier for insurance companies to deny basic coverage like maternity care, mental health and addiction services, and prescription drugs, as well as threatens the employer sponsored insurance system.”

“Passage of this bill, in addition to the regulatory changes the Trump administration has undertaken, continues to jeopardize healthcare for millions.  There is an old saying, “if you break it, you buy it”.  Republicans are on a singular mission to break the Affordable Care Act, and they will soon learn they will be on the hook for the tens of millions of Americans who will be harmed along the way.”
