Press Release

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Cedric Richmond (LA-02) released the following statement prior to debate on the FY14 Homeland Security Appropriations amendment offered today by Congressman Bill Cassidy (LA-06), Congressman Richmond (LA-02), Congresswoman Waters (CA-43), and other members of Congress:

“A few weeks ago, I introduced the Flood Insurance Implementation Reform Act of 2013. Today, I am pleased to join my colleagues in supporting this amendment which further echoes the need to protect homeowners and prevent steep increases to flood insurance rates from burdening Louisiana residents,” Congressman Richmond said. “The fact that the entire Louisiana congressional delegation has united behind a single bill shows how important it is to protect our constituents from the risks associated with flood insurance affordability. This bipartisan amendment is a step in the right direction and reflects our commitment to long-term flood insurance reform.”

On May 23, 2013, Rep. Richmond (LA-02), a member on the Committee on Homeland Security, led the charge to slow down flood insurance rate increases by introducing the Flood Insurance Implementation Reform Act of 2013. The legislation calls for improvements to the National Flood Insurance Program by ensuring that the implementation of new rates do not burden homeowners or slow the recovery of the housing market. He successfully engaged Rep. Maxine Waters(CA-43), original  author of the Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2012, and is proud to have the support of the entire Louisiana delegation.
